29th AMBYESE Annual Educational Conference: NOVEMBER 10, 2012The 29th AMBYESE Annual Educational Conference is free to participating high schools and will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the University of Connecticut/Stamford Main Campus from 10:30 a.m. until 3:000p.m. Registration deadline is October 16, 2012. The AMBYESE Annual Educational Conference is a college preparatory, educational experience where students interface with professionals from various fields including: medicine/healthcare, engineering, law, finance, marketing,communications and journalism, and science. More than 200 college-bound high school students from New York and Connecticut will be pre-selected by their respective high schools to participate in this enriching educational event. This Conference is for college-bound freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors; however, sophomores and juniors will benefit most from the program. We can accomodate a total of 15 students from each of our participating high schools. Students will be selected on a first come, first serve basis. The AMBYESE Annual Educational Conference is open to all students from grades 8th through 12th regardless of sex, race, or religion Students who attend the AMBYESE Annual Educational Conference should have an interest in developing careers in business,communications, engineering, math, science, law, and/or information technology. Students must be well disciplined, focused on learning, and able to make the commitment to be at the Conference by 10:00a.m. Saturday morning. Corporate partners like Praxair, Pitney Bowes, Xerox, PepsiCo, The University of Connecticut School of Business, Wachovia, American Broadcasting Company, American Express Company, Stop & Shop Supermarkets, and Peopl's United Bank will provide the AMBYESE Annual Educational Conference with several of their employees who will serve as role models to the 200+ participating students. What The Day Will Look Like: Registration will begin at 10:00a.m. in the hallway outside of the main auditorium of the UCONN/Stamford campus. A student assembly will follow in the auditorium from 10:30a.m. until Noon. Lunch will be served from 12:15-12:45p.m. A career workshop with our professional mentors will take place during the day. Students who do not wish to preregister for a particular workshop will be assigned one. Simultaneous career workshops will be held from 11:45p.m. until 1:45p.m. (See conference schedule above for details). Each workshop will have 12 to 15 students and a team of 2-3 corporate role models who have experience in one of the following disciplines: accounting/finance, communications, marketing, journalism, engineering, operations, research and development, human resources, or information technology. AMBYESE's Annual Educational Conference will provide students with career handbooks and other instructional materials, corporate sponsors provide free “goodie bags.” Hanes T-shirts are the official AMBYESE conference T-shirts and will be given away to each participant. Students will be given a follow up progress reports form, which is required to be turned in before they depart the UCONN campus. AMBYESE staff will follow up with each student and their parent(s) or guardian(s) regarding the possibility of providing a corporate mentor to monitor their progress throughout the academic year. Participating schools must provide round-trip transportation for their students as well as a school chaperone who will serve as AMBYESE’s contact person throughout the academic year. Over the last twenty-five years, thousands of students from high school students throughout Connecticut and New York have benefited from information gleaned at our Annual Conference.
